Awareness Session on Substance Abuse

The Institutional Counselling Cell – ASARE, in association with the Department of Community Health Nursing, organized an Awareness Session on Substance Abuse at SVH PU College, Innanje, on 27 June 2026. Through presentations, a skit, a quiz, and a Drug-Free Pledge, the programme empowered students with knowledge to prevent substance abuse and promote healthy lifestyles.

Occasion: International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

On the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Institutional Counselling Cell – ASARE, in association with the Department of Community Health Nursing, Niramaya College of Nursing, organized an Awareness Session on Substance Abuse at SVH PU College, Innanje, on 27 June 2026. The programme aimed to educate students about the harmful effects of substance abuse, preventive strategies, legal implications, and the importance of leading a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

The programme commenced with a prayer, followed by a welcome address by Ms. Sangeetha, Third Year B.Sc. Nursing student. The event was compered by Ms. Jayalakshmi, Third Year B.Sc. Nursing student, who ensured the smooth conduct of the programme.

Third Year B.Sc. Nursing students delivered an informative presentation highlighting the types of commonly abused substances, causes and risk factors, physical and psychological consequences, early warning signs, preventive measures, and the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. A thought-provoking skit effectively portrayed the influence of peer pressure and the importance of family and community support in overcoming addiction.

To reinforce the message, all participants took a Drug-Free Pledge, committing themselves to a healthy and substance-free future. An interactive quiz further engaged the students, with prizes awarded to the winners. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students and faculty of SVH PU College.

The awareness session concluded with the distribution of sweets to all participants. The programme was highly informative and impactful, successfully encouraging young minds to make informed choices and become advocates for a drug-free society.
